Passage from continent to Sakhalin may cost Russia 400 bln rbl

YEKATERINBURG, Jul 10 (PRIME) -- A transport passage from the continental part of Russia to the Sakhalin Island may cost about 400 billion rubles, Russian Railways’ First Vice President Alexander Misharin told reporters on Monday.

“Preliminary estimate shows the cost of about 400 billion rubles for 540 kilometers,” he said, adding that the cost is the same for projects to construct a bridge or a tunnel to the island.

“We are now also discussing the possibility of placing an additional reloading facility on the Sakhalin Island.”

On June 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the government plans to relaunch construction of a bridge to the Sakhalin Island. Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said that construction of the passage to the island is included into Russia’s transportation system strategy until 2030.
